Maha Shivratri – The Sacred Night of Lord Shiva

Part 1: The Significance of Maha Shivratri

Maha Shivratri, meaning the "Great Night of Shiva," is one of the most revered festivals in Hindu culture. Celebrated annually in honor of Lord Shiva, this auspicious night symbolizes devotion, penance, and the victory of light over darkness.

Falling on the 14th night of the lunar month of Phalguna (February–March), Maha Shivratri holds special significance for Shiva devotees. It is believed that on this night:

Lord Shiva performed the Tandava, the cosmic dance of creation and destruction.

Shiva and Parvati united in divine marriage, making it a night of love and devotion.

The Shivling appeared as an infinite column of fire, teaching the world about the boundless power of the divine.

Devotees observe the festival by fasting, chanting mantras, offering Bilva leaves, and staying awake all night, seeking Lord Shiva’s blessings for strength, wisdom, and spiritual awakening.
