The MIXUP 2025 fighting game tournament has concluded, crowning several champions across its nine featured fighting games, including Street Fighter 6 (SF6) and Tekken 8.

Team Liquid’s Alan ‘Nephew’ Sun and Gaimin Gladiators’ Jonathan ‘Tibetano’ Medina won their respective tournaments, qualifying them for the Esports World Cup.

Nephew and Tibetano Head to Esports World Cup 2025

Nephew placed first in the SF6 tournament, claiming the 44% of the €1,440 (~$1,696/£1,057) prize pool. He first defeated Samuel ‘EndingWalker’ Arm from MOUZ in the Upper Bracket Finals before defeating MOUZ’s other UK representative, Benjamin ‘Problem X’ Simon, in both the Upper Bracket Finals and Grand Finals, ending the tournament 3-0.

Nephew is relatively new to the professional Street Fighter 6 scene, joining Panda as his first organisation in 2021 and then Team Liquid in March 2024. Ever since joining Team Liquid, Nephew has been competing against top players at high-level tournaments with mixed results, but a second place at Genesis X2 showed promise.

As a result of his recent victory at this Tier 2 tourney, Nephew has now directly qualified for the SF6 tournament taking place during the Esports World Cup 2025 in Riyadh. Forty-eight players in total will compete, qualifying from SF6 competitions such as the Last Chance Qualifier, SFL World Championship 2024, EVO Japan 2025 and more.

Tibetano placed first in the Tekken 8 tournament, claiming €3,250 in winnings (~$3,828/£2,799). He started off strong, winning 2-0 against Virtus.pro’s Park ‘Mangja’ Geon-ho in the Upper Bracket Semifinals. Then, he defeated Jeon ‘Jeondding’ Sang-hyun from Team Vitality in both the Upper Bracket Finals and Grand Finals, winning the latter with a 3-0 landslide.

In this particular tournament, the Esports World Cup 2025 qualification spots were awarded to the highest non-qualified players in the top eight, i.e positions fifth to eighth. However, Tibetano has already qualified for the Tekken 8 tournament in Riyadh through his placement in CEO 2025. Several Esports World Cup spots remain up for grabs through the Last Chance Qualifier for Tekken 8, with four spots and $50,000 (~£36,715) in prize pool funds on the line.

The Esports World Cup is shaping up to be a bigger event for the FGC as more teams and players qualify. With both Nephew and Tibetano set to compete, the FGC can look forward to intense matches this summer.
