How It All Began

Wimbledon started way back in 1877 at the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club in London, England. Originally organized as a men's singles tournament, it quickly grew into a world class event, welcoming women players from 1884.

From wooden rackets to high tech gear, Wimbledon has evolved, but it's never let go of its heritage and charm including the famous grass courts, all white dress code and the tradition of strawberries and cream.
