In a stunning upset at the Esports World Cup 2025, APAC South’s VK Gaming emerged victorious in the ALGS Midseason Playoffs, claiming the championship title and a significant portion of the $2,000,000 prize pool. The team triumphed in a nail-biting Game 9 of the Match Point format, securing their win in front of a sold-out audience at EWC 2025.

Considered long shots before the tournament, VK Gaming defied expectations, outperforming pre-tournament favorites like home team Team Falcons and the formidable Ninjas in Pyjamas. Their victory marks them as only the second team from the APAC South region to secure an ALGS title, following in the footsteps of DarkZero.

VK Gaming kicked off the finals strong, clinching the opening game of the day. While they didn’t secure another win until the decisive ninth game, their consistent performance kept them in contention. They narrowly missed a victory in the penultimate game, ultimately being edged out by Gen.G. Their persistence paid off, culminating in their dramatic Game 9 win.

This win by VK Gaming serves as a powerful reminder of the global talent within the ALGS circuit. While much attention often gravitates towards powerhouses like Alliance, NAVI, Fnatic, and TSM – many of whom didn’t even reach match point in this tournament – the playoffs demonstrated that numerous teams are capable of achieving a LAN victory. The intensity of the competition was evident, with eight different teams reaching match point throughout the event.

What’s Next for the ALGS?

With the Midseason Playoffs concluded, teams will now shift their focus to Pro League Split 2, which is scheduled to commence in late August. Fans can anticipate a flurry of roster changes across the league, a common occurrence in the ALGS. Even VK Gaming might see shifts in their lineup before their next competition.

Speculation is already rife regarding potential roster moves, particularly in the Americas, with the retirement of iiTzTimmy. Many fans are also hoping for the return of former NRG player Sweetdreams, who has previously competed alongside Sikezz and Gild, hinting at possible future collaborations.
