WWE RAW presented the July 14 edition of the show from Legacy Arena in Birmingham, Alabama. The show presented the fallout of an action packed weekend and was a high captivating night beginning the road to WWE's next major event, SummerSlam. Furthermore, the biggest highlight saw Roman Reigns finally make his return and make a huge statement at the expense of his foes.
The match began after Paul Heyman endorsed Bron Breakker in front of the reigning World Champion, Gunther. The Wolf Dog started the Gauntlet with Penta, and the duo locked up with the bout picking up pace. However, Penta's springboard attempt was stopped by a thunderous spear by Breakker, who eliminated him. LA Knight entered the Gauntlet next, and following a back-and-forth between him and Breakker, he was also eliminated with a spear. The next competitor to enter was Jey Uso. He put a valiant effort against Breakker and was about to hit the Uso Splash towards the end, when Bronson Reed interfered to help Breakker eliminate him
CM Punk was the last superstar to enter the match. It was another action-packed showdown between the duo. Bronson Reed once again tried to run interference, but Jey Uso neutralized him. Punk hit the GTS on Breakker to win and secure the title shot for SummerSlam.
Breakker and Reed continue to attack them until Roman Reigns made his shocking return. He took both of them out with a pair of Superman punches and Spears and stood tall at the end of the show with Jey Uso and CM Punk.
San Antonio was the host city for this week's episode of "WWE SmackDown," which served as a major building block as the promotion heads toward its next marquee show — the first two-night SummerSlam in WWE history. Let's jump right in!Cody Rhodes plans to beat John Cena from one corner of MetLife Stadium to the next. On Friday's WWE SmackDown, Rhodes forced Cena to sign up for a street fight at SummerSlam. Undisputed WWE champion Cena did everything he could to weasle out of their rematch. Unfortunately, Rhodes refused to let Cena off the hook. After forcing Cena to sign their contract, Cena vs. Rhodes 2 is set for the weekend of Aug. 2.
Rhodes won the King of the Ring tournament at Night of Champions, guaranteeing an undisputed WWE title shot at SummerSlam. Cena tried to circumvent his duty as champion by blaming a Netflix movie he's working on and his emotional exhaustion. Cena promised he'd honor Rhodes' title shot, but not at the next pay-per-view. Rhodes would not concede, chasing down and brawling with his WrestleMania rival. Rhodes cracked Cena with the undisputed WWE title before driving him through a table with a top rope splash. Rhodes placed a pen in Cena's limp hand, physically forcing Cena's hand to sign the contract. Afterwards, Rhodes revealed the contract stipulated that their match would be a street fight.
I'm no lawyer, but I feel like contracts are voided if the signee is unconscious. Also, how did Rhodes learn to forge Cena's signature? These are moot points. Poking logic in professional wrestling is an endless battle. Rhodes' renewed viciousness and Cena's cowardice contrast nicely. Their WrestleMania match was poorly received, but a street fight allows them to distract with big spots and hide Cena's physical limitations. A solid step forward in building to their rematch.
