On this World Photography Day, let's rewind to the moment that started it all — the creation of the first photograph ever taken.A blurry image, yes, But a revolutionary one.
📅 Year: 1826
📍 Location: Saint-Loup-de-Varennes, France
👨🔬 Inventor: Joseph Nicéphore Niépce
🖼️ Title: View from the Window at Le Gras
First photograph:
Niépce took the first-ever photograph in 1826 or 1827 from an upstairs window of his estate in Saint-Lop-de-Varenees, Burgundy, France, using a camera obscura and a bitumen-coated pewter plate.
This was the first permanent photograph captured using a camera obscura.Niépce used a process called heliography — "sun writing. He coated a pewter plate with light-sensitive bitumen, placed it inside a camera obscura, and exposed it to sunlight for 8 hours.
🌄 The result?
A grainy but historic image of rooftops, trees, and a courtyard — the first successful attempt to freeze time using light and chemistry.
🎞️ This photograph wasn't just a technical feat.It was a philosophical shift — proving that moments could be preserved, stories could be told without words, and reality could be reimagined.
💬 Niépce called it "the first uncertain step in a completely new direction. And what a direction it's been — from daguerreotypes to DSLRs, from film rolls to digital clouds.
