Hello Questers! Gen.G Esports has just announced a major roster shake-up in Marvel Rivals – the new 5v5 Marvel-themed shooter. Following the recent Ignite Mid-Season Finals, the team is parting ways with four players as it prepares for Stage 2 of the Ignite Series later this year. The departing players (as of Aug 19, 2025) are:

  • Shin“Dotori”Hyun-jong – Strategist
  • Jung“FUNFUN”Seung-hyun – Vanguard
  • Bae“KAIDIA”Jung-hyun – Duellist
  • Jung“Xzi”Ki-hyo – Duellist

Several of these players (FUNFUN and Dotori) have already hinted on social media that they're looking for new teams. With those four gone, Gen.G's current Marvel Rivals roster is now just Choi“Brownie”Min-gi, Sin“CHOPPA”Jae-hyeon, and Jung“Snake”Rae-won. In its announcement, Gen.G thanked the departing players "for their time repping the gold and black" and wished them well in their future careers.

Gen.G's Marvel Rivals Journey So Far

For context, Marvel Rivals is a brand-new hero-based shooter from Marvel Games. Gen.G officially entered this scene in mid-2025 with a brand-new lineup. (Earlier in 2025, Gen.G had even fielded an academy squad in the Season 1: Eternal Night Falls Championship, finishing as runners-up.) The current Marvel roster was announced on May 15, 2025, and included three players from the previous Uprise team (FUNFUN, CHOPPA, and Brownie) plus four members from Gen.G's original roster.

Gen.G has already competed in several major events:

  • The Shroud Gauntlet (May 17, 2025) – Invited as a top team; Gen.G placed 5th overall after losing 1-2 to Sentinels in the lower bracket.
  • Asia Ignite Stage 1 – Gen.G made a deep run and finished Runner-Up. In the Grand Final they narrowly lost 3-4 to REJECT.
  • Ignite 2025 Mid-Season Finals – Gen.G was the first team eliminated, falling 0-2 to Team Envy in the play-in stage.

Despite the early exit at Mid-Season Finals, Gen.G earned an invite to Ignite Stage 2 (thanks to their strong Stage 1 performance). Exact dates for Stage 2 haven't been announced, but it's expected to run between September and October 2025. As of now, Gen.G hasn't revealed who will replace the four departing players on the roster for that tournament.

Other Roster Changes in the Scene

Gen.G isn't the only team making big moves. The Marvel Rivals competitive scene is seeing several roster shake-ups:

  • Sentinels (NA) – Recently announced that three members of their Marvel Rivals team have departed.
  • Mid-Season Finals Champions – The team that won the Mid-Season Finals (known as Rad EU) just announced they are leaving their old organization and searching for a new one.

With multiple top teams retooling, it's clear the meta is still fresh and everybody is looking to get an edge before Stage 2.

What's Next – Stage 2 and Beyond

Gen.G now heads into the next phase with only half of its roster intact. Will these changes pay off? Who might step up or be signed to rebuild the squad? And can Gen.G contend for the championship with a reworked lineup?

Questers, we want to hear your thoughts:

  • Who should Gen.G target to fill these vacant roles in Stage 2?
  • Do you think dropping these four players will make Gen.G stronger or weaker?
  • With so many teams swapping players, which org do you predict will come out on top?

Share your opinions in the comments below and let's discuss how this roster shake-up will affect the Marvel Rivals scene!
