The firm has already started hiring in India, its second largest market after the U.S., and established an Indian entity, OpenAI India Private Limited
The move marks the firm’s first major entry — following visits by CEO Sam Altman as part of a series of blitz Asia tours — into what is shaping up to be among its largest markets by population.
Opening an office in India reflects OpenAI’s support for the government’s IndiaAI mission and commitment to partnering with the government to build AI for India, with India,” the firm said in its announcement. An Indian entity, OpenAI India Private Limited, appeared on the Registrar of Companies’ index.
It will also allow OpenAI to better serve its users in India, including the millions of students, educators, professionals, and developers who use OpenAI’s tools to learn, be more creative, and solve problems for themselves and others,” it added.
