MediaTek has gained an upper hand against Qualcomm by announcing its most advanced smartphone chipset to date, the Dimensity 9500. Mass produced on TSMC’s newest 3nm ‘N3P’ architecture, the SoC brings immense performance and efficiency improvements to the table, with ARM’s next-generation C1 cores allowing the silicon to match Apple’s A19 Pro in both single-core and multi-core results. Here are all the details you have been wanting to know about the Dimensity 9500.
Like the Dimensity 9400, the Dimensity 9500’s CPU cluster features an ‘all performance core’ configuration, but sadly, the new chipset does not have any in-house architecture to showcase to the masses. Instead, it leverages ARM’s latest C1 cores and maintains the same 8-core specifications.
The chipset also sports 16MB of L3 cache, plus 10MB of SLC cache, and before you ask, yes, the Dimensity 9500 also supports ARM’s latest SME 2 (Scalable Matrix Extension) instructions set. The CPU details are mentioned below.
MediaTek also revealed that the Dimensity 9500 obtains a single-core and multi-core score of 4,007 and 11,217 points, respectively, making it up to 32 percent faster than the Dimensity 9400 in compute performance. We also noticed that these results match the A19 Pro in both single-threaded and multi-threaded categories.
Regarding efficiency, the Dimensity 9500 consumes 32 percent less peak power than the Dimensity 9400, with an app launch reaction speed of 50ms and a deviation of only 10ms.
Paired with the 8-core CPU, the Dimensity 9500 features the new ARM Mali-G1 Ultra graphics processor with double the ray tracing cores, along with MediaTek’s Dimensity Dynamic Architecture. At its peak, the GPU can deliver a 33 percent increase in performance, with a 42 percent increase in power efficiency at peak performance.
The Mali-G1 Ultra is also capable of up to 119 percent faster ray tracing performance, and can deliver 120FPS fluid gameplay. The Dimensity 9500’s GPU supports Unreal Engine 5.5+, pretty much confirming PC-like gaming capabilities, though Android flagships featuring the new SoC will continue to rely on emulation because developers have yet to introduce native AAA titles to Google’s smartphone platform.
The new NPU 990 that works in unison with the Dimensity 9500 sports MediaTek’s second-generation Gen-AI engine with 40 percent lowered power consumption and twice the token generation speed. The Neural Processing Unit can also generate high-quality 4K-resolution images. Compared to the Dimensity 9400, the new NPU is 111 percent faster.
The new 5CC-CA standard allows for the integrated 5G modem to reach a maximum downlink speed of 7.4Gbps on the sub-6GHz band, with the Dimensity 9500’s UltraSave technology saving 10 percent more power using AI traffic prediction. MediaTek has also incorporated various wireless technologies that improve the call experience, such as the Smart Multi-Link call, which eliminates dropped calls with cellular or Wi-Fi duplication.
Users can also experience 20 percent faster Wi-Fi file transfers compared to flagship alternatives, with 35 percent further reach for Bluetooth audio, enabling better voice quality. AI-GNSS offers 20 percent accurate location and a near-instant fix, making it ideal for ride-hailing applications.
The first wave of smartphones featuring the new chipset will be announced shortly, and, like always, we will continue providing more performance and efficiency metrics surrounding the Dimensity 9500
