For years, Vivo/ iQOO smartphone users outside of China have been running on FuntouchOS, a skin that often polarized opinions. While it offered features tailored for international markets, many global users were aware of China-exclusive OriginOS, Vivo/ iQOO's homegrown interface praised for its smoothness, customization, and modern design.

Now, that wait is finally over. Vivo/ iQOO has officially announced that OriginOS 6, built on Android 16, will replace FuntouchOS globally — marking one of the biggest shifts in Vivo/ iQOO's software strategy.

📅 Launch Timeline

  • October 10, 2025 (China): OriginOS 6 will debut in China.
  • October 13, 2025 (China): The Vivo X300 and X300 Pro will launch as the first devices running OriginOS 6 out of the box.
  • October 15, 2025 (Global): Vivo/ iQOO will host the OriginOS Global Launch, revealing rollout plans and supported devices for international users.

This staggered schedule suggests that Vivo/ iQOO wants to refine the Chinese release first before adapting it for global audiences.

🔍 What OriginOS 6 Promises

According to Vivo/ iQOO, OriginOS 6 is more than a cosmetic update — it's a deep rebuild of the Android core system. Key expected improvements include:

  • Performance Upgrades: Optimized compute power, memory management, and faster response times.
  • Enhanced Visuals: Better rendering, smoother transitions, and a translucent interface design.
  • AI Features: Smarter system intelligence for sharing, multitasking, and personalization.
  • Customization: Richer options for themes, layouts, and user control.

This aligns with the feedback many Vivo/ iQOO fans have shared: a desire for a lighter, smoother, and more flexible UI compared to FuntouchOS.

🌍 Global vs China Version – Will They Differ?

A key question remains: will the global OriginOS 6 be identical to the Chinese version?

  • In China, Vivo/ iQOO doesn't include Google services due to restrictions, while international markets rely heavily on them.
  • The global release may therefore include structural adjustments to ensure Google Play Services integration while maintaining the core OriginOS experience.

The move to unify software worldwide is still significant. For the first time, Vivo/ iQOO users everywhere could experience the same design language and software philosophy, eliminating the divide between FuntouchOS and OriginOS.

🚀 First Devices & Rollout

  • The Vivo X300 / X300 Pro will debut with OriginOS 6 in China.
  • Globally, devices like the iQOO 15 series and recent Vivo flagships are expected to be among the first to receive the update.
  • Older models may get phased updates later in the year.

For users, this means that upgrading to a flagship won't just be about hardware anymore — software experience will feel premium right out of the box.

✅ Why This Matters

  1. Brand Image: FuntouchOS was often criticized for being bloated. Moving to OriginOS could help Vivo/ iQOO compete with the likes of OnePlus (OxygenOS), Samsung (One UI), and Xiaomi (HyperOS).
  2. User Experience: Smoothness, customization, and AI integration could make daily usage more fluid.
  3. Market Strategy: By finally unifying its software experience, Vivo/ iQOO is signaling that it wants to be taken more seriously in global premium markets.

The global launch of OriginOS 6 on October 15 is more than just another software update. It represents a turning point for Vivo/ iQOO's global strategy, bringing consistency to its devices worldwide and promising a faster, cleaner, and smarter Android experience.

If Vivo/ iQOO delivers on these promises, the move could reshape how the brand is perceived outside China — and might even win back users who previously dismissed FuntouchOS.
