Anthropic has announced the opening of its first India office in Bengaluru by early 2026, marking a significant expansion into one of the world’s most vibrant AI markets, only weeks after OpenAI set up its presence in New Delhi. The Amazon-backed company, creator of the Claude AI chatbot, is responding to surging demand for trustworthy and versatile AI solutions among Indian enterprises and startups, with India already established as their second-largest market for AI products.
But Why Bengaluru.?
Bengaluru was chosen for its rich technical talent pool and its status as the hub of India’s enterprise and innovation ecosystem. CEO Dario Amodei emphasized the city’s ability to empower the development of globally competitive AI solutions and its alignment with Anthropic’s mission to scale responsible and beneficial AI across sectors such as education, healthcare, and agriculture.
India ranks as the leader in global AI adoption, with over 90% of the workforce reportedly utilizing AI tools, according to the Boston Consulting Group. Anthropic plans to leverage this momentum by enhancing Claude for Indic languages, launching improved performance in Hindi and broadening support for regional dialect. The company aims to enable India’s developer community to build advanced applications and support critical sectors, including partnerships with nonprofits and strategic alliances with major enterprises.
Anthropic’s India expansion will focus on hiring local talent, facilitating social impact through AI innovations, and fostering strategic collaborations across the country. The initiative demonstrates the company’s commitment to helping India’s AI ecosystem play a central role on the world stage while ensuring equitable technology access and responsible governance practices for all segments of society.
With the race to AI leadership intensifying, Anthropic’s Bangalore office underscores the global AI giants’ recognition of India’s pivotal position in shaping the future of artificial intelligence.
