Battlefield 6 Classes, Explained : Which of the 4 should you play as?

Figure 1, view larger image

Battlefield 6 launches today and is the return to form for the EA multiplayer shooter series that its fans have so desperately been waiting for. Unlike its predecessor, Battlefield 2042, Battlefield 6 also features a character class system right from the start. Before a match and any time they are trying to respawn, players can choose between one of four classes. Each can have a unique loadout, but each also has some special skills that make them best for certain roles in a fight.

If you're new to Battlefield or just haven't played one of these games in a while, you might be wondering which class is the best fit for you. That's why I'm providing an overview of what each of Battlefield 6's classes does and what kind of play they are best suited for. From there, you can decide what to play before you ship out for war.

Assault

The best choice for aggressive players

The Battlefield 6 class that will probably appeal to the widest breadth of players is the Assault class. It's the class to pick if you mainly want to use Assault Rifles as your primary weapon or take advantage of the Adrenaline Injector gadget that increases your sprint speed while adding resistance to any damage that does not come from a bullet.

The Active Ability for this class is called Rally Squad, and can be used to give any nearby squad members the Adrenaline Injector effects. Some passive benefits include being able to progress objectives faster, almost always being available for squad members to respawn next to outside of combat, and having extra grenades.

If you're a Call of Duty player who just wants to run and gun, Assault is the best class option for you. It's the most solo-friendly and offensively focused of all the classes. That said, the Rally Squad ability can actually be extremely helpful in a team setting if timed properly. This is a good class to get a feel for the game with before deciding which one you want to play most frequently.

Engineer

The best choice for those who want to use a lot of vehicles

If you think you're going to be spending a lot of time in or around tanks in Battlefield 6, then you'll want to consider the Engineer class. Its signature gadget is the Repair Tool, which repairs friendly vehicles when used on them. The Active Ability Power Fix can also be used to briefly increase the efficiency of its repair effects.

This class is proficient with submachine guns and weapons that use rockets as ammo. Other passive abilities include taking less explosive damage and disabling the opposing team's ability to take over a vehicle when you're near one your team is using. The Engineer class is a pretty fun way to play Battlefield 6 once you're comfortable with the game, even if its focus is a bit narrow.

While you're unlikely to stand out that much in a firefight, a smartly placed Engineer can maximize your team's use of vehicles in a match. That inherently makes this a little bit more of a team-focused role, although buffs are player-specific, so you can just focus on making sure you're in the right place and keeping your team's vehicles prepared.

Recon

Best for players who like to snipe

Figure 9, view larger image

I always hate facing off against a good sniper in a shooter game, but those are the kinds of players who will be drawn most to the Recon class. Its signature weapon is obviously the sniper rifle, and it's best used to spot as many enemies on the opposing team as possible to mark them for your fellow teammates. If you get a headshot while playing as this class, you can even prevent that player from being revived.

Recon's signature gadget is a Motion Sensor that detects nearby enemies, vehicles, and gadgets on the minimaps of all the players on your team. You can also use the active ability UAV Overwatch to mark the position of enemies that are further out. Essentially, you have all the tools you'd want to find an enemy player and take them out.

Recon has a high skill ceiling, and a good Recon player can really turn a match in their team's favor. If you don't have the most accurate aim or plan on running straight into enemy territory every time you spawn, then you might struggle to play Recon, though. An experienced player can really have a tangible impact on a match using this class, though.

Support

The best for new players who aren't good at fighting

Finally, we have the Support class. Its use case is pretty obvious, as this is the class to play if you primarily want to be running around and reviving teammates while playing Battlefield 6. Support players can drag and revive their teammates faster than other classes (although that isn't an exclusive ability) and even give them a temporary health regeneration buff after revival.

You also keep your teammates stocked up. The Restock Allies active ability heals and resupplies nearby players for ten seconds, the Supply Bag signature gadget can be dropped anywhere on the map for players to refill their ammo and gadgets, and the Squad Supplies signature trait means players can interact with you to get health and ammo.

Support players are proficient with light machine guns, but this isn't a class to pick if your primary focus is going to be fighting. You're there to build up your team's endurance for as long as possible with this class, keeping them alive and well-equipped to take on the enemy team. In matches like Conquest and Breakthrough, where your team's lives really matter, Support is extremely useful

Which class should you pick?

Figure 15, view larger image

When you first boot up Battlefield 6, you should play as the Assault or Support class. Those will each make you intimately familiar with the flow of matches. From there, you should then choose a class based on what parts of the match are the most appealing to you. Do you want to fight enemies up close and personal with guns and vehicles, or help from a distance by spotting enemies and healing allies?

Figure 16, view larger image

If you're a solo player, Assault and Engineer are your best choices. If you're more of a team player, the best options are Support or Recon. The modes you choose to play can also have an impact, as the Engineer's vehicle-related benefits don't help in modes that don't have them and Support's ability to heal and revive becomes less important in modes where each team has an infinite number of lives.

With enough play time, though, you can be really effective with any class in Battlefield 6, as they all have ace in the hole potential for your team.
