👑 The Legend of Champaner

The town of Champaner was founded by Vanraj Chavda, a Rajput king, in honor of his wise minister, Champa. The fort flourished under the Raval dynasty, until its destiny took a mythical turn — when King Jaisinh offended Goddess Mahakali by gazing upon her during her sacred dance on Navratri. Enraged, she cursed the city with destruction, a prophecy that came true when Sultan Mahmud Begada attacked and conquered it in the 15th century.

🕌 The Golden Era of Mahmud Begada

After his victory, Mahmud Begada made Champaner his capital, adorning it with magnificent structures like the Jama Masjid, Kevda Masjid, Nagina Masjid, and Uohra Mosque — each a masterpiece of Indo-Islamic architecture. The ruins of his palace near Vad Talav, about 2 km away, still echo the grandeur of his reign.

Halfway up Pavagadh Hill lies a serene lake surrounded by ancient Jain carvings, marking the area’s deep spiritual diversity. Further up, the Navlakha Temple and the shrines dedicated to Chandraprabhu and Suparshvanath stand as eternal symbols of Jain artistry and devotion.
