Hye Questers,
Campaign Evolved, a full remake of first game's campaign, will launch on PC, Xbox Series S/X, and PS5 in 2026.
Microsoft announced a new game called Halo: Campaign Evolved on Friday. It’s a full remake of the first Halo game, rebuilt from the ground up using Unreal Engine 5. For the first time ever, Halo will also be released on PlayStation, in addition to Xbox and PC, when it launches in 2026—ending its long-time Xbox exclusivity.
The remake was officially revealed during the Halo World Championship 2025, held from October 24 to 26. Halo Studios, the developer (previously known as 343 Industries), showed off a trailer and a 13-minute gameplay demo highlighting what players can expect from the new version.
Halo: Campaign Evolved is a complete remake of the original Halo: Combat Evolved campaign, rebuilt using Unreal Engine 5 from Epic Games. The new version will have 4K graphics, smoother animations, the classic Halo weapons and vehicles, updated music, new voice recordings, and even some extra story content.
Microsoft says the remake is meant to be a modern take on the original game’s story, and it will include three new campaign missions as bonus content. The announcement was made in an Xbox Wire post on Friday.
There are also some new co-op features. Halo: Campaign Evolved will keep the classic two-player split-screen mode on consoles, but it’s also adding online co-op for up to four players across Xbox Series S/X, PC, and PlayStation 5 — a first for the game.
Halo Studios executive producer Damon Conn said they wanted to return to where it all started with the original Halo campaign. He explained that this approach would help new players experience the story from the very beginning while setting the stage for future Halo stories.
Conn added that by focusing on the campaign, the team can put all their effort into recreating the atmosphere, tone, and emotional feeling that made the first game’s story so special and memorable.
The remake will include nine extra weapons from across the Halo series, like the Energy Sword, Battle Rifle, and Needle Rifle. Players can now also hijack enemy vehicles and, for the first time ever in Halo: Campaign Evolved, drive the Covenant Wraith tank. The game is also getting an optional sprint feature, giving players more flexibility in how they move around the battlefield.
Campaign Evolved is set to release in 2026 on Xbox Series S/X, PC (through the Xbox app and Steam), and PlayStation 5. It’ll also support Xbox Cloud Gaming and Xbox Play Anywhere. Players with Game Pass Ultimate or PC Game Pass will be able to play it on day one at no extra cost.
At Halo World Championship, Halo Studios also confirmed that the iconic Xbox first-party franchise would release on PlayStation beyond Halo: Campaign Evolved, as well. The studio's community director Brian Jarrard said Halo on PlayStation was “a long time coming.”
As a community guy, I know the Halo community is super excited to welcome in their friends as well. It's just going to mean more Halo for everyone. It's really a new era. Halo is on PlayStation going forward, starting with Halo: Campaign Evolved, Jarrard said during the livestream.
Halo is Microsoft’s most famous and long-lasting game series. When Halo: Combat Evolved came out in 2001, it helped make the original Xbox a huge success. Over the past year, Microsoft has been expanding its games to more platforms, including the PlayStation 5. While other franchises like Gears of War and Forza were confirmed for PlayStation, Halo had remained an Xbox-only series—until now.
Still, hints about Halo coming to PlayStation have been around for a while. Back in November last year, Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer told Bloomberg that he wouldn’t rule out any Microsoft game being released on other platforms like PlayStation or Nintendo. He said there were no strict limits on which games could go multiplatform, though at the time, he mentioned it was too early to make any decisions about the next Halo game.
Earlier this year, Spencer hinted the return of Halo: Combat Evolved at Xbox Games Showcase in June. The Xbox boss didn't mention the game by name, but said 2026 would mark the “return of a classic that's been with us since the beginning.
