✍️ Cuneiform: The First Writing System 📜

Hiee Folkss>>>

Cuneiform is believed to be the earliest form of writing, developed by the ancient Sumerians in Mesopotamia (modern-day Iraq) around 3200 BCE. It was created primarily for record-keeping in trade and administration, marking a monumental step in human history and the start of recorded civilization. 🤯

Wedges and Clay 🧱

The script is characterized by its wedge-shaped marks (the word cuneiform comes from the Latin cuneus, meaning "wedge"). Scribes used a blunt reed stylus to press these shapes into soft clay tablets, which were then baked hard in the sun. This method made the script incredibly durable, allowing countless tablets to survive for thousands of years. 🛡️

Tip/Trick: Pictograms to Abstraction 💡

Cuneiform didn't start as wedges! Tip: The earliest forms were pictograms (simple drawings of objects). Over time, to write faster, the symbols were rotated and stylized into abstract wedge shapes that could represent sounds (phonetic values) rather than just objects, making it a much more versatile writing system! 🔄

Cuneiform is the origin point of human literacy, a foundational technology that allowed complex societies to flourish through permanent communication.
