Build & Design:

  • More rounded corners than before & flat sides, both of which are a welcome change imo
  • Has a premium in-hand feeling and the build feels solid.
  • Only two colors on offer: Legend & Alpha. The Legend comes with a glass back while the Alpha has a fibreglass finish & the Legend definitely feels a bit more premium.
  • The device weighs 215g (Legend) & 220g (Alpha). The weight distribution has been done pretty well. It’s 8.1mm thick, which is fine due to its massive battery I'd say.
  • Comes with IP68/69/69K. So you do have the peace of mind while using it in the rain, but remember, no warranty is provided for water damage.
  • The camera module is a bit smaller than before. I might be nit-picking but it bothers me that the radii of the camera module doesn’t match with that of the frame.

Display:

  • Comes with a 6.78” 120Hz flat AMOLED panel, with slim & even bezels.
  • Uses the new Samsung-made M14 LEAD OLED panel, which was mentioned as the “most advanced smartphone display at present”
  • It has 1000nits of manual brightness, 2600nits HBM & a whopping 6000nits peak. Absolutely crazy numbers, and is more than sufficient to be visible under any lighting conditions
  • Comes with a pre-applied anti-reflective screen protector (which will also be sold via their store for future replacements). It does a decent job, but can be better.
  • Has Eye Protection 2.0, which claims to be better for your eyes, especially when using the phone for longer durations.

Performance:

  • Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 under the hood paired with 12/16GB LPDDR5X Ultra RAM & 256/612GB of UFS 4.1 storage
  • As expected, it flies through regular usage. The brand also mentioned that it can keep up to 40 apps in memory, and that will be an interesting thing to see
  • Has a 8000mm² VC chamber, which will definitely help the device run cooler for longer
  • Has the new Q3 Supercomputing chip to enhance gaming performance.
  • Has a new Game Live Streaming Assistant, which allows streaming w/o requiring any external equipment. This is going to be an important aspect for a lot of mobile gamers for sure.

Battery & Charging:

  • Massive 7000mAh Silicone anode battery
  • 100W wired charging & 40W wireless charging
  • 100W PD/PPS charger in the box
  • Bypass charging is present, but you have to enable it manually from the settings

*I couldn’t test the battery, but iQOO promises good battery life.

Cameras:

  • 50MP Sony IMX921 1/1.56” f/1.88 Main
  • 50MP Isocell JN1 1/2.76” f/2.05 UW
  • 50MP Sony IMX882 1/1.95” f/2.65, 3x Periscope
  • 32MP Galaxycore GC32E1 1/3.1 Selfie

* Wasn’t allowed to take the phone out of the auditorium, so all the samples are taken indoors.

  • A bit warmer tones
  • UW shots lack a bit of detailing
  • Main sensor photos are awesome with great colors
  • Zoom is great at 3X and at 6X, but starts to fall apart beyond 10X in indoor conditions and relies heavily on AI after a certain point

  • Camera UI is neat and easy to understand
  • Switching between zoom modes in default photo mode is smooth, but is quite jittery when doing the same in Portrait Mode.
  • Supports up to 8k 30fps (only from the main sensor)
  • 30fps/60fps 1080p & 4K from all the lenses
  • Lens switching is smooth, but the lens shift is noticeable.

Software:

  • Comes with OriginOS 6 out of the box, which is a major USP of this phone. FuntouchOS always felt like a bottleneck when recommending an IQOO phone in the past.
  • Has 5+7 years of update policy, which is an excellent move considering how powerful the hardware of this phone is.
  • Overall UI is fluid, with smooth & bouncy animations

Miscellaneous:

  • Has a LED strip around the camera module, which they call the Monster Halo.
  • It glows up for notifications, calls, etc.
  • Has a lot of colors to customize the look.
  • Is a neat & useful implementation w/o ruining the overall design.

  • Has X+Z axis haptic motor. The vibrations were strong and were also precise during typing.
  • Type C port is USB 3.2 Gen 1
  • Has an Ultrasonic in-display Fingerprint scanner
  • IR Blaster is present
  • Smudges are quite visible on the Alpha, Legend looks cleaner.
  • NFC is present

iQOO 15 is not just a gaming-centric device and it does target a broader audience who would benefit from the excellent hardware it packs in. With OriginOS, the software side of things will go uphill as well. Eyes are now on the pricing as that can make or break the deal for them.
