On December 18, 2025, Electronic Arts (EA) formally declared the end of Real Racing 3 after an amazing 12-year run.

As part of a planned retirement strategy, the game is closing. The current state of affairs and the reasons behind it are as follows:

📅 The Timeline of Shutdown

Three separate steps are involved in the closing process:

1.  December 18, 2025 (Delisting): The game was taken off the Google Play Store and the Apple App Store for new users.
2. All in-app purchases (Gold, R$, and bundles) have been disabled as of December 18, 2025.
3. The servers will be permanently shut down on March 19, 2026 (Full Server Closure). Even if you have the game installed, you won't be able to play it after this date because it needs a server connection to work.

What's causing it to shut down?

Despite the emotive tone of EA's official statement, which described it as a "difficult decision to retire from the race,"

the shutdown is caused by a number of industry factors:   

1. Sustainability: It's uncommon to keep up a live-service game for twelve years. Eventually, the expenses of server maintenance, obtaining pricey auto licenses (such as those for Ferrari, Porsche, and Formula One), and creating new content exceeded the earnings.
2. Studio Transitions: The game was transferred to EA's Hyderabad studio in 2023 after the original developers, Firemonkeys Studios, experienced severe layoffs. This change signaled the start of the game's last "maintenance" stage.
3. Licensing: It is both financially and legally difficult to maintain approximately 500 licensed vehicles from more than 50 manufacturers. It gets more difficult to keep the game "legal" to sell in stores as licenses expire.
