〰️Thread 26: How Microwave Ovens Heat Food From the Inside

microwave oven does not heat air.

It heats water molecules inside your food.

Inside the oven is a device called a magnetron.

It generates high-frequency electromagnetic waves at 2.45 GHz.

These waves enter the metal cooking chamber and bounce around randomly.

Water molecules are polar.

When microwaves hit them, the molecules rotate rapidly back and forth.

This molecular motion creates friction.

Friction creates heat.

So your food heats internally instead of from outside in.

That is why:

• Food heats unevenly

• Turntables are used to spread waves

• Dry food heats poorly

• Liquids heat very fast

You are not “warming” food.

You are vibrating molecules until they get hot.
