🚗 Thread 73: How Car Cruise Control Holds a Constant Speed

Cruise control does not press the accelerator like a tiny invisible foot.

It runs a feedback loop between speed sensors and the engine.

Figure 1, view larger image

The car constantly measures wheel rotation to know its real speed.

If the car climbs a slope and slows down, the system increases throttle automatically.

If the car goes downhill and speeds up, it reduces throttle.

All of this happens dozens of times every second.

Your cruise control is not driving the car.

It is correcting speed errors in real time.
