The photographer utilized several classic design principles to create a sense of depth and symmetry:
The parallel metal railings and the edges of the balconies act as strong leading lines. They draw the viewer’s eye from the foreground deep into the center of the frame toward the staircase.
The repetitive "checkerboard" pattern of the floor tiles creates a rhythmic visual interest. The two buildings facing each other create a roughly symmetrical U-shape, framing the central courtyard.
The top and sides of the buildings act as a "frame within a frame," boxing in the courtyard and focusing the viewer's attention on the internal walkway.
The one-point perspective creates a "tunnel effect," making the narrow space between the buildings feel elongated and deeper than it might actually be.
There is a warm-vs-cool contrast happening; the bright yellow walls and warm interior lights pop against the deep black of the night sky and the cool white tones of the opposi
te building.
