The 40.1 update for PUBG: Battlegrounds has brought major changes to the game's world map for PC players, with a console release expected to launch on February 12. The latest update to PUBG arrives just in time for the return of its annual Spring Fest event, which celebrates the end of winter across the game's world each year. Previous updates to PUBG have been well received, with its late 2025 patch launching with major winter-themed changes to its popular world map and a January 2026 update further expanding on these subzero conditions.

The most significant changes introduced in PUBG's 40.1 version are its updates to Erangel, the game's map. The official patch notes for PUBG's 40.1 update reveal that many of its previous transformations have been reverted, returning the world to a spring-based theme that should be familiar to longtime fans. Despite the refreshed environment, some lingering effects remain from the previous state of PUBG's popular world map.

PUBG's 40.1 update also added of All-In-One repair kits, Emergency Cover Flares, and Jammer Packs to the game's Secret Rooms, as well as Destructible Gas Tanks across the game's map. There are also new Progressive Weapon Skins, Chromas, and a new Crafter Pass coming to the game's upcoming Spring Fest 2026 event. In addition, various UI adjustments have been detailed, such as a Throwable Inventory display, better squad status indicators, and more distinct Blue Zone visual cues. A new PUBG Bridge website has been launched as well, allowing players to view 2D match replays via web browsers.

The battle royale's sustained success has allowed the developers to continue supporting the title, and PUBG regularly receives major updates that introduce new items, weapons, and more to keep players engaged for years. The 40.1 update continues the game's trend of regular support, with sweeping changes across the map adding to the diversity of its playable experience.

After familiarizing themselves with the winter-themed Subzero update, fans may be less receptive to PUBG's latest changes, which largely return the game to its status quo. Regardless, the number of improvements and additions should bring excitement to many players looking to jump back into one of gaming's most popular battle royales.
