The Assamese Gamosa is one of the most recognizble cultural symbols of Assam. A piece of woven white cloth, it has intricate red motifs and borders, that are representative of Assam. Originally used as a towel, ('Ga' means body and 'mosa' means to wipe), the Gamosa has various uses today.
As a symbol of respect it is gifted to a senior and guests are welcomed with it, However in domestic use it is used as a towel, as a waist-baned by BIHU dancers, as a head-wrap or Loin cloth by farmers, or as a cover for the holy books in the prayer room. The Gamosa is unique to Assam state and has no parallel in the rest of India.

It is basically made of either bamboo strips or a special kind of dried palm leaves, which is locally known as 'TOKOW PAT". There are many varities of "Jaapi" found in Assam namely- Halua jaapi, pitha jaapi,Sorudoiya Jaapi, Bordoiya Jaapi, Cap jaapi etc..
The Assamese Xorai is traditional tray on which betel nuts and betel leaves are served to welcome guests. It is also used to place offerings to God. The tray may or may not have a lid. The xorai is also used as a decorative item during festivals.
