Hey Questers ❤️
Bharti Airtel has rolled out a new AI-powered fraud alert system aimed at tackling banking scams linked to One-Time Password (OTP) leakages. The feature works directly at the network level, intervening during suspicious calls where fraudsters attempt to trick users into sharing sensitive OTPs used for financial transactions.
The company says the solution is part of its broader efforts to reduce spam and digital fraud across its mobile network.
The new system monitors incoming calls in real time using artificial intelligence to identify patterns commonly associated with fraud attempts. When a banking OTP is generated while a user is still on a potentially risky call, Airtel triggers an alert warning the customer about the danger of sharing the OTP.
This real-time interruption is designed to break the pressure tactics scammers often rely on. By prompting users to pause and verify the situation, the feature aims to prevent unauthorised transactions before they occur.
Airtel states that the technology combines AI-driven detection with behavioural analysis to flag calls that resemble known scam methods, including impersonation and urgency-based manipulation.
Fraudsters increasingly exploit OTPs used for everyday services such as payments, banking logins, and digital verification. Victims are often convinced that sharing an OTP is necessary to resolve an issue, receive a delivery, or complete a transaction.
Once the OTP is handed over, scammers can gain instant access to bank accounts or payment platforms. Airtel notes that while spam filters and malicious link blocking have reduced certain fraud types, human manipulation remains a major vulnerability.
The AI-powered OTP protection is currently live in Haryana and will be expanded to Airtel’s entire customer base across India over the next two weeks. The feature operates automatically at the network level, meaning users do not need to install an app or change any settings to receive alerts. Airtel positions the system as an added security layer alongside existing spam call warnings and malicious link detection tools.
