🛫 Uber Air powered by Joby — What It Is

Uber has teamed up with Joby Aviation to launch a new service called Uber Air powered by Joby — an electric air taxi service that users will be able to book directly through the Uber app, just like ordering a car ride.

Instead of standard cars or bikes, this service uses all-electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft that can carry up to four passengers per flight.

📍 Where and When It’s Launching

🇦🇪 Dubai — First City to Go Live

  • The first commercial air taxi flights are expected to begin later in 2026 in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
  • Dubai will have several vertiports — dedicated take-off and landing hubs — connecting key locations like the airport, shopping districts, hotels, and universities.
  • Pricing is expected to be comparable to a premium Uber ground ride (e.g., Uber Black) once launched.

This makes Dubai one of the first major cities in the world to integrate electric air taxi service into a mainstream mobility app.

🌍 Future Expansion Plans

After Dubai’s launch, Uber and Joby are targeting other major cities once certification and infrastructure approvals are secured, including:

  • New York & Los Angeles (U.S.)
  • United Kingdom
  • Japan

subject to regulatory clearance and vertiport development.

In short, Uber's electric air taxi service aims to become a real, app-bookable mode of urban transport by the end of 2026, starting in Dubai and potentially expanding globally.
