Youāre in the middle of processing a high-priority documentāperhaps a PAN card or an Aadhaar-linked serviceāand suddenly, the biometric scanner (Morpho/Mantra) stops responding. The customer is waiting, the portal is timing out, and youāre stuck restarting your PC in a panic. Most CSC operators lose hours of work because they don't know that the "Service" layer of the software has simply fallen asleep.
Instead of a full reboot, the "secret" is a manual RD Service Reset. Biometric devices rely on a background bridge called the Registered Device (RD) Service. When it hangs, the hardware looks "dead" to the website, but a 10-second software kick will bring it back to life instantly.
š§ Tip #1: The "Services.msc" Shortcut ā Don't go through the Control Panel. Press Windows + R on your keyboard, type services.msc, and hit Enter. This opens the "engine room" of your PC. Scroll down to find your device service (e.g., "Morpho RD Service" or "Mantra AVDM"). Right-click it and select Restart. This force-refreshes the connection without closing your browser tabs.

Always use Incognito/Private mode (Ctrl+Shift+N) for every new customer. This ensures a fresh session every time and prevents "session already active" errors.
š Pro Tip: Invest in a Powered USB Hub. Biometric scanners and high-speed document scanners draw a lot of "startup" current. If you plug too many devices into your PCās front ports, they may underperform. A hub with its own power adapter ensures your hardware never "browns out" during a fingerprint scan.
