Since iQOO’s inception in 2019, the brand has shifted from "performance-only" to "camera-serious." If we look at the last 6 years (2020–2026), the title for the best sensor is a toss-up between the Omnivision OV50H (found in the iQOO 12/12 Pro) and the newer Sony IMX921 (found in the iQOO 13/15).
However, in terms of sheer hardware capability and sensor size—the most critical factors for light intake—the Omnivision OV50H is widely considered the high-water mark for the brand.
Flagship ; ModelSensor ; ModelSize ; Why it Matters
iQOO 12 / 12 Pro
Omnivision OV50H
1/1.31"
The largest sensor iQOO has used. Its "Dual Conversion Gain" technology allows for incredible dynamic range, especially in difficult lighting.
iQOO 13 / 15
Sony IMX921
1/1.56"
While slightly smaller than the OV50H, it uses vivo's "VCS" (Bionic Spectrum) technology to mimic human eye color perception, leading to more "natural" shots.
iQOO 11 Pro
Sony IMX866
1/1.49"
A solid RGBW sensor that improved low-light performance but lacked the raw detail of the newer 1/1.3" class sensors.
While the iQOO 13 and 15 are newer, the iQOO 12 Pro's OV50H remains the "enthusiast's choice" for two main reasons:
Raw Light Gathering:
Physics doesn't lie. A 1/1.31" sensor is physically larger than the 1/1.56" found in the iQOO 13. This results in more natural "bokeh" (background blur) and cleaner shots in pitch-black environments.
The Secondary Support:
The iQOO 12 Pro paired this main sensor with a 64MP Periscope Telephoto (OV64B), which is arguably one of the best zoom sensors in the industry. The iQOO 13 shifted toward a more portrait-focused 50MP telephoto, which some feel is a step back for long-range photography.
iQOO 3 (The Start)
2020
Used the Sony IMX582 (48MP). It was a budget-to-midrange sensor, reflecting iQOO's early focus on gaming over photography.
iQOO 9 Pro (The Leap)
2022
Introduced the Samsung GN5 (50MP). This was iQOO's first "true" flagship camera, featuring gimbal stabilization borrowed from vivo’s X-series.
iQOO 12 Pro (The Peak)
2023-2024
Adopted the Omnivision OV50H. This moved iQOO into the big leagues, competing directly with Samsung and Apple in high-end photography.
iQOO 15 (The Refinement)
2025-2026
Moves to the Sony IMX921. Focuses on AI-driven processing and color accuracy (VCS) rather than increasing the physical size of the glass.
If you want the most "professional" hardware, the iQOO 12 series (OV50H) is the peak. If you want the smartest AI and best color science, the iQOO 13/15 (IMX921) is the way to go.
