Google has introduced Personal Intelligence in the Gemini app in India, enabling users to connect apps like Gmail and Photos for contextual responses while maintaining control over privacy settings.

Google has expanded its Gemini app capabilities in India with the rollout of Personal Intelligence, a feature designed to deliver more contextual and tailored responses. The feature builds on earlier availability in the US and focuses on integrating user data across Google services to improve utility. It is being introduced for eligible subscribers, with a wider rollout planned in the coming weeks.

How Personal Intelligence works

Personal Intelligence allows users to connect apps such as Gmail, Google Photos, YouTube and Search with Gemini. Once enabled, the system can reference information across these services to answer queries more effectively. For example, users can ask Gemini about travel plans, and it can compile details from emails, saved images and browsing history into a single response.

The feature combines reasoning across different data sources with the ability to retrieve specific details. This enables Gemini to provide answers that are not limited to a single app but span multiple formats including text, images and videos.

Privacy and user control

Google states that Personal Intelligence is optional and turned off by default. Users can choose which apps to connect and can disable the feature at any time. The company adds that data accessed through connected apps is used only to respond to queries and not to directly train AI models.

Gemini also provides references or explanations for the information it uses, allowing users to verify responses. Additional options include running chats without personalization and correcting responses to refine future outputs.

Availability

The rollout is currently targeted at Google AI Plus, Pro and Ultra subscribers in India. It is accessible across web, Android and iOS platforms. Users can enable it through the Gemini app settings under the Personal Intelligence section.
