I would like to report camera image processing issues in the stock camera app on my iQOO device. I compared the results with GCam, and the difference in image quality and processing is clearly visible.

Issues in the Stock Camera App:

1. Excessive Contrast and Dark Processing (HDR OFF)

• When HDR is OFF, photos become too dark and heavily contrasted.

• Shadow areas lose detail and look crushed.

• Images get an unnatural dark tone.

• Brick textures, walls, and cement surfaces appear overly sharpened and harsh.

2. Overexposed White Tone (HDR ON)

• When HDR is ON, images become too bright and washed out.

• The camera adds a white tone to photos.

• HDR processing looks aggressive instead of natural.

• Highlights are over-boosted while contrast still remains too strong.

3. HDR Halo / Dark Border Artifacts

• In HDR or long-range shots, dark lines and artificial borders appear around buildings, roof edges, and corners.

• This creates an unnatural halo effect, especially against bright skies.

• The issue is clearly visible near edges and high-contrast areas.

4. Overprocessing

• The stock camera applies too much sharpening, contrast, and HDR enhancement.

• Photos look artificially processed instead of natural.

• Texture rendering becomes rough and unrealistic.

GCam Comparison:

I tested the same scenes using GCam, and the photos look significantly more natural:

• Better dynamic range

• More balanced exposure

• Natural shadows and highlights

• Softer and realistic contrast

• Cleaner HDR processing

• More accurate real-life colors

• Less artificial sharpening

Even though GCam is not fully optimized for this MediaTek processor, it still produces more pleasing and natural images than the stock camera app.

Request:

Please improve the stock camera processing through software updates by:

• Reducing excessive contrast

• Reducing artificial sharpening

• Improving HDR tone mapping

• Preventing dark halo/border artifacts

• Preserving natural shadows and highlights

• Making image colors and exposure more realistic

The camera hardware is capable, but the current image processing feels too aggressive and unnatural compared to what the hardware is capable of. I hope future software updates can improve the stock camera experience so users do not need to rely on GCam for more natural-looking photos.
