“Stand Up. Speak Out. Defend Human Rights.”

Amnesty International Day

Amnesty International Day is observed every year on 28 May. It marks the founding of Amnesty International in 1961 by British lawyer Peter Benenson.

The day is dedicated to:

Promoting human rights awareness

Supporting prisoners of conscience and victims of injustice

Campaigning against torture, discrimination, and unfair imprisonment

Encouraging people worldwide to speak up for freedom and dignity

Amnesty International received the Nobel Peace Prize in 1977 for its work against torture and human rights abuses.
