Avengers: Endgame officially has a new name. Marvel's Infinity Saga finale is set to return to theaters ahead of Avengers: Doomsday's debut, this time in Infinity Vision. When it does, it will have the new title Avengers: Endgame Encore. The new Avengers: Endgame title reflects additions to the movie in Infinity Vision, which directors Joe and Anthony Russo have teased will help bridge the gap between Endgame and Doomsday. Deadline reports that more than 7,500 theaters have applied for Infinity Vision certification ahead of Avengers: Endgame Encore's release on Sept 25.

Avengers: Doomsday will not play in IMAX theaters, which threatens the movie's box-office performance. As a solution, Marvel introduced Infinity Vision, which is not a new premium format like IMAX or Dolby Vision, but more like a stamp of approval confirming that certain theaters have the best screens and sound available in non-IMAX, non-Dolby theaters. The release of Avengers: Endgame Encore is meant to popularize Infinity Vision before Avengers: Doomsday arrives.Infinity Vision certifies theaters meet what Disney describes as "rigorous technical standards." Those standards include "The largest screens for maximum scale," "Laser projection for superior brightness and clarity," and "Premium audio formats for fully immersive sound." At CineEurope in Barcelona, Disney confirmed more specific requirements: a screen at least 45′ wide, immersive sound comparable to Dolby Atmos or 7.1, and brightness levels reaching 14 footlamberts in 2D or 6 footlamberts in 3D.

Marvel also confirmed how Avengers: Endgame Encore will be different from the superhero epic's initial release. Avengers: Endgame Encore will have new introductions, new footage, and a special post-credits scene available only in IMAX and Infinity Vision screenings. The Infinity Vision ticketing page, InfinityVisionTickets.com, is now live.As interest in enhanced theater amenities continues to grow, there is a meaningful opportunity for our collective industry to simplify how we communicate and promote the range of premium large format (PLF) experiences that are available to consumers. We commend Disney for taking an important first step toward advancing this objective and look forward to collaborating with them and our broader industry partners to align on a unifying PLF brand and set of standards,” said Cinemark CEO Sean Gamble in a statement.

It’s been a long time coming, and we love that Disney is taking the lead in pointing moviegoers to the best theaters out there. Having a single identifiable brand will help audiences trust that from the moment they step through the doors, they are going to have a spectacular cinematic experience,” said Eduardo Acuna, CEO & Director of Regal Cineworld Group.“We compliment Disney’s leadership in promoting the great myriad of theatrical experiences available to movie fans today. We need to ensure that audiences everywhere are aware of the many options available to them in their local theaters," Cinema United Boss Michael O’Leary said. For what it's worth, Marvel has already secured IMAX theaters for Avengers: Secret Wars in 2027. Avengers: Endgame Encore opens in theaters on Sept. 25.
