The character, Zilean, bears the name of the game's design director.

Design director at Riot Games Tom "Zileas" Cadwell inspired the name of Zilean, the renowned Chronokeeper. Cadwell has an outstanding background, including a degree in computer science from MIT and works on Warcraft III: The Frozen Throne and World of Warcraft at Blizzard.

The game is named after a 14th-century Italian knight.

Fiore dei Liberi, the great Italian fencing master, had a huge influence on martial arts, owing mostly to his illuminated manuscripts, which have lasted for almost 600 years. Fiora, a character in League of Legends, fights with fencing and has a very similar name.

League of Legends is the 2nd most profitable professional eSport.

With approximately $20 million in prize money paid to players since the game's release, League of Legends ranks as the second most profitable game to play competitively in eSports history. That's more than the combined total of the original Counter-Strike and StarCraft!
