I haven't used both phones side by side yet, so this isn't a verdict - it's just something I'm genuinely curious to see.
From my experience with previous iQOO flagships, especially the iQOO 12, iQOO 13 and 15, I've really liked what iQOO has been doing with portraits, close-up/macro shots and zoom photography. In the comparisons I've personally seen, these were areas where iQOO could hold its own really well against the iPhone.
Now The iQOO 16 has also taken its camera hardware further - a 50MP 1/1.3" main camera, 50MP Sony periscope telephoto and 50MP ultrawide. The periscope offers 3× optical zoom, 6× lossless zoom and up to 100× digital zoom, with Vivo's NICE 3.0 and Magic 3.0 imaging engines working on the processing side along with CIPA 5.5 stabilization. iQOO also says the main sensor captures 79% more light than the previous generation.
But the iPhone 18 Pro has also moved forward. Its 48MP main camera now gets a variable aperture, while the 48MP telephoto offers 4× and 8× optical-quality options, and Apple has also improved its macro and computational photography.
So this is where I'm really curious.
For still photography, portraits, macro and zoom, can iQOO's new periscope + imaging processing actually stay ahead of what Apple is doing now?
Because when it comes to video, I still see the iPhone as a very difficult benchmark to beat, especially with its extensive Dolby Vision, ProRes and stabilization features.
But photography is where I'm really interested in seeing this generation go head-to-head.
iQOO 16 vs iPhone 18 Pro - I'd genuinely love to see a proper camera comparison.
Not just the usual daylight samples either.
Portraits. Macro. Zoom. Night shots. Skin tones. Colours. Details.
That's the comparison I'm waiting for.
