Hey IQOO FAM,
Most of the Tech geeks or even the guys following smartphones surely have heard about DxOMark. Generally in Smartphone launches & ads, DXoMark Score is shown off as a Badge of Honour about how great the Smartphone Camera is. So today let's decode DxOMark.
What is DxOMark?
It is a commercial website that analyses Smartphones, Cameras & Lenses which gives scores based on different parameters of testing the Product & gives an overall score according to the weightage of each parameter. All the testing and analysis are done in DxO Labs.
Where can you see the Scores?
Just visit DxOMark official website, click on Rankings -> Smartphones, and the smartphone camera ratings are displayed in decreasing order of their Scores.
What do those numbers mean?
Most of the time these scores can be misleading as it’s really difficult to get an idea of each and every complexity, and feature of a camera. So it’s recommended to check the DxOMark website for better clarity and decoding of the Score.
Let us take an example of the Vivo X70 Pro +. (As there is no proper camera ratings for any IQOO Phones)
If you notice, these numbers are clearly not the average of all the numbers. It is actually given according to the weightage each parameter has.
If you go through the actual review, DxO does some pretty legitly solid testing covering both scientific & objective aspects. They have specialized indoor sets for testing things like noise performance, sharpness, color reproduction, details, auto-focus, shutter speed, bokeh, and tons of different things. They also have outdoor sets for testing things like HDR, color accuracy, etc.
How ratings are given?
They take the image from the smartphone camera and match it with the scale which is called IMAGE QUALITY RULER. They have an existing scale of like the bokeh of an image and give a score on where the image stands in the scale.
According to the weightage, Exposure & Contrast have the highest weightage, and Zoom, Bokeh & Flash are the least weighted.
So is DxOMark the Holy Grail of the Camera Test?
Absolutely no. This is an overall score and the weightage of each aspect is decided by the panelist at DxO Labs. But if you are a person who takes more portrait mode shots or night mode shots, then the order of weightage for you would change.
So what's a good DxOMark Score?
There is no perfect DxOMark score. Since Camera Tech & Software Optimizations are reaching newer heights day by day, these scores will also keep increasing with time.
So the crux is DxOMark Score can give you a broad idea about how your camera stands among all, but not the actual capability, hence it should never affect your buying decision. But if you are into DxOMark, it is highly recommended to go through the detailed review rather than only the score.
I hope I was able to decode the whole DxOMark Score for you guys. Like/Dislike the way you felt about the same & pour in your feedback and suggestions in the comments section below, that would be highly appreciated. Catch you guys pretty soon with another thread.
REGARDS,
