Hello, friends!

Today I want to share with you some amazing facts about a historic event that changed the course of Indian history: the Jallianwala Bagh Massacre. You may have heard of it, but do you know what really happened on that fateful day in 1919? Let me tell you!

The Jallianwala Bagh Massacre, also known as the Amritsar Massacre, was a brutal attack by British troops on a peaceful gathering of Indians in a public garden called Jallianwala Bagh in Amritsar, Punjab. The crowd had assembled there to celebrate Baisakhi, a harvest festival and a religious occasion for Sikhs, and to protest against the oppressive Rowlatt Acts, which gave the British authorities sweeping powers to arrest and detain anyone without trial.

The British commander, Brigadier General Reginald Dyer, decided to teach the Indians a lesson for defying his orders to not hold any public meetings. He ordered his soldiers to surround the garden and block the only exit. Then he commanded them to open fire on the unarmed crowd, without giving any warning or chance to disperse. The firing lasted for about 10 minutes, until the soldiers ran out of ammunition. According to official estimates, 379 people were killed and over 1,200 were wounded, but some sources claim that the death toll was much higher.

The Jallianwala Bagh massacre was a dark and shameful chapter in the history of British colonialism in India. It exposed the brutality and injustice of the imperial rule, and sparked a wave of nationalism and resistance among the Indian masses. It also inspired many leaders and freedom fighters, such as Mahatma Gandhi, Rabindranath Tagore, Bhagat Singh and Udham Singh, to dedicate their lives to the cause of India's independence.

The Jallianwala Bagh massacre is a reminder of the sacrifices and struggles of our ancestors who fought for our freedom and dignity. It is also a reminder of the importance of peace and non-violence in our world today.

As Mahatma Gandhi said, "Non-violence is the greatest force at the disposal of mankind. It is mightier than the mightiest weapon of destruction devised by the ingenuity of man."

That's it for this thread today,
