On May 17, 1865, the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) was founded and the International Telegraph Convention was signed, so every year we observe May 17 as World Telecommunication Day, which is celebrated to make people realise the importance of telecommunication in our lives.

This year, World Telecommunication and Information Society Day (WTISD) focuses on "Empowering the least developed countries through information and communication technologies."The International Telecommunication Union (ITU) calls on the public and private sectors to make pledges for universal connectivity and digital transformation in these countries through its Partner2Connect Digital Coalition.

In addition, to end the digital divide in the whole world, This day also aims to make information and communication easily accessible to individuals living in remote parts of rural areas around the world.
