Today is World Emoji Day .

World Emoji Day is an annual unofficial holiday occurring on July 17, intended to celebrate emoji. It was founded by Jeremy Burge, the founder of Emojipedia, in 2014. The date was chosen because the calendar emoji, 📅, displays the date 17 July on most platforms.

World Emoji Day is a celebration of all things emoji. People use the day to share their favorite emojis, learn about new emojis, and create art and memes using emojis. Many companies also use the day to announce new emoji-related products or services.

In recent years, World Emoji Day has become increasingly popular. In 2018, it was Twitter's top trending item on July 17. And in 2020, Google changed the appearance of the calendar emoji on Android, Gmail, Hangouts, and ChromeOS products to display July 17, to avoid confusion on World Emoji Day.
