A major overhaul of its cybersecurity system is underway, involving the replacement of the Windows operating system on all internet-connected computers with a new, homegrown OS named Maya. This strategic move is aimed at countering the escalating threat of malware and ransomware attacks that have posed significant challenges in recent times.

Maya OS: A Shield against Cyber Threats

Maya OS is an innovative operating system built upon the foundation of Ubuntu, a well-regarded Linux distribution known for its robust security features. Crafted in collaboration with esteemed government agencies, including the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), the Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC), and the National Informatics Centre (NIC), Maya OS is designed to provide a secure and user-friendly computing environment. Its interface and functionality closely resemble that of Windows, facilitating a seamless transition for users.

One of the standout features of Maya OS is its cutting-edge Chakravyuh system. This feature serves as an end-point anti-malware and antivirus solution, establishing a virtual barrier between users and the internet. By doing so, it effectively thwarts unauthorized access attempts and safeguards sensitive data from hackers. This proactive defense mechanism represents a significant leap forward in protecting critical systems from cyber threats.

A coalition of experts from diverse government agencies dedicated six months to the creation of Maya OS, with collaborations extending to Indian software companies and academic institutions. The rigorous testing and refinement process ensured that Maya OS could withstand the scrutiny of India's armed forces, with the Navy already granting its approval.

Future Prospects and Deployment

Maya OS currently stands on the cusp of deployment, undergoing meticulous evaluation and testing. The initial phase aims to install Maya OS, alongside the robust Chakravyuh protection system, on all internet-connected computers within South Block before August 15. Subsequent stages envision the migration of remaining systems to Maya OS by year-end, solidifying the Defense Ministry's commitment to fortifying the nation's cyber defenses.
