Hey Quester's hope you all are doing well, I am here with a thread series in which we will talk about amazing technology around the world. Today we are going to talk about the world's first smart glasses Focals by North.
Focals by North are custom-made glasses with a heads-up display built- in. They connect directly to your smartphone to make all your digital information available in a convenient up-front display. The working of the software of the glasses is similar to a smartwatch. They are the world'sl first pair of prescripted smart glasses.
They pair over Bluetooth with your phone and act like any other wearable. They show notifications, can call an Uber, and have Alexa built in. They're controlled through a ring called the Loop, which is both a joystick and a button. The Focals won't replace your phone, however; they are merely an accessory for it just to increase your productivity.
North partnered with Mapbox to bring maps to the glasses, but it only offers walking directions. There are no driving directions because North doesn't want people using these while they drive as this can be a distraction and can lead to an accident.
All of the phone notifications will be mirrored on the glasses, and one can set the notification sound as well. There is a built in speaker and mike on them. You can mute the sound and notifications for when you're in a workflow or otherwise in a situation where you don't want to be disturbed.
The speaker and microphone in the Focals allow you to interact with Amazon's Alexa assistant through them, which works very smoothly. You can ask Alexa a question, control your smart home devices, or set a timer, and it will show you answers in the Focals' display.
Both the glasses and Loop charge through a special case and proprietary system. That case charges over USB-C, the glasses and Loop require nightly charging.
The glasses are a bit heavier than the normal glasses and the frame is made up of plastic. The laser produces the picture of 300 x 300 pixels, which is clear enough for indoor use. But the focals don't work outside during the day because of excess light that's why North gives users clip-on sunglasses to go with them.
The original price of the glasses was $999.
Note:- The Focals won't replace your phone, however; they were merely an accessory for it.
But the brand has stopped the production of this revolutionary tech masterpiece
"Focals smart glasses and its services are being discontinued and will no longer be available after July 31st, 2020,"
This was the statement by the brand on their official website. The main reason behind this shut down was the problem in fitting of the frame, and resolution of the glasses.
