Hello Guys This is Sourav, hope you are doing extremely well and we are back again with a fresh new series - The Rise and The Fall , where we are going to see how a game become so popular that it was installed on almost every device and how it became obselete. This is EP 2
and we are going to start with HILL CLIMB RACING 🚘.
Hill climb racing is a popular racing mobile game which I think no one missed out playing unless you live on mars 😅.Today we are gonna see The Rise and The Fall of the game, whose developer was once under a huge debt made the 7 most downloaded game ever 😮.
So Hill climb racing is made by Toni Fingerross, who learned programming all by himself and started developing various softwares from the age of 10 😮. He loved car racing from tge very start so he initially developed a game by the name of Rally 94 and shared it with his friends as he thought that games can only be developed by a company and not by an individual, so he thinks the name of Fingersoft (the company behind Hill climb racing). Initially, He was not all serious in developing games rather took it as a hobby and you will shocked to know that he trademarked Fingersoft after 10 years of its existence 🤯.
Yes, before the game's rise Tony Fingerross failed miserably he tried developing several games and failed lost all his money. Not just that he did sell imported cars and that business also failed miserably and ending up in a huge debt 📉. This is when he re-started Fingersoft in 2011. He used to work alone and released a number of photography apps in a hope that one should take off but failed again but hey! Hard work never fails and on February 2012 Cartoon Camera, an app which converts any image to a cartoon sketch takes off and hits 10 million downloads 🤯 which makes him a lot of money and he was out of his debt 💸.
So, Tony was working on some physics work that is when he got the idea of Hill Climb Racing. So, He isolated himself from the world and codes for 16 hours a day, This is next kevel dedication hope I can also achieve this for studies 😅. Well, keeping my studies aside, the visuals and the grapics were made either by his friends or by some freelancers. Visuals were made childish on purpose to attract masses. One of Tony's friend made the sketch of the games protagonist - Bill Newton who was named so because of physics (from where he got the game's idea). And all of this give birth Hill Climb Racing which was then released on September 2012 for Android and then one month later for iOS.
They started advertising their game on the camera apps deveped by Fingersoft. Then comes the of exponential growth Hill Climb Racing achieved 100 million+ downloads in just a span of 12 months 📈🤯.
Play store showcased it in the Top downloads swction and the downloads increased further more 🆙 It became the 7 most downloaded game in 2013 making a total of more than 100 crore rupees for the developer 💸💸. Imagine yourself being in debt and in the span of 2 years being the owner of 100 crore Rupees 🤯. Even the critics were super happy and the game became the part of everyone's life 🧬.
To celebrate the 1st year anniversary, Fingersoft introduced special localised content for various countries such as Spain 🇪🇸, Japan 🇯🇵, Germany🇩🇪 and Russia 🇷🇺.
On February 2015 Fingersoft introduced a newer version of the game known as the Chinese version which got the best innovation award in 2015 🏆
After the huge success of Hill Climb Racing, Fingersoft on November 2016 which had newer vehicles, new events and the grapics were improved this time around and it achieved a total of 40 million downloads in just 2 months.
In 2018, it was reported that The Hill Climb Racing Franchise achieved a total of 1 billion+ downloads 🤯🤯.
And Boy oh Boy it was reported in 2022 that the Franchise hits 2 Billion+ downloads worldwide 😮 and it becomes the second studio of Finland 🇫🇮 to do this. Can you guys guess the second studio, well if you can write in the comments below 👇🏻
*SPOILER*- I will make a Rise and Fall episode on their game also next.
Everything was going fine but still there are some hiccups here and there, the turnover of the company starts to decline. Here's the record for you guys :-
In 2017 :- 30 million Euros
In 2018 :- 21 million Euros
One of the main reasons was the introduction of Battle Royale games like BGMI which took the internet and the gaming world by storm and gradually taking all the gamers to their side. Nowadays, you see a rare person playing Hill Climb Racing take an example of ourselves, we no longer play the game which was once an essential commodity in everyone's device, right?
Hey, but if you take tge popularity decline graph of Hill Climb Racing it is not as significant as Fruit Ninja 🍉.
They are still working for instance, they introduced the development of Hill Climb Racing 3 which is scheduled to release in 2023 itself and it may be 3D 🤯.
Stay Safe 🙏🏻
