5G is the 5th Generation technology which provides fastest data speeds, lower latency and stable connectivity in the country. The auction process auction for India's 5G spectrum began July 26, 2022 and closed August 1 after 40 rounds of bidding spread over seven days. India's biggest ever spectrum auction with bids upwards of Rs 1.5 lakh crore coming in after seven days of bidding spread over 40 rounds Reliance Jio was the top bidder, putting up over INR 880.78 billion for 24.740GHz worth of airwaves across the 700MHz, 800MHz, 1800MHz,3500MHz, and 26GHz bands.

In India, 5G is being deployed over NSA (Non-Standalone Architecture) and SA

(Standalone Architecture) With NSA architecture means the network is designed to be deployed on top of existing 4G LTE network infrastructure whereas the 5G standalone (SA) is a new mobile network architecture that is not dependent on existing 4G infrastructure to facilitate communications. Instead, 5G SA networks are built with 5G infrastructure across both the radio access network.

Airtel – NSA (With 900Mhz, 1800 MHz, 2100Mhz, 3300 MHz, 26GHz)

JIO – SA (With 700MHz, 3500MHz, 26GHz) Bands

How it is different from 4G?

The fourth generation (4G) mobile network standard has a maximum upload rate of 500 Mbps and a download rate of 1 Gbps. Here, the latency is about 50 ms and the network is good for high-speed applications, mobile TV, wearables, and more. However, it is less efficient than 5G.

The fifth generation (5G) is all about enhancing wireless connectivity, data transmission, better multimedia experience, and ultra-fast download and upload speeds. It will ensure high resolution video streaming, improved robots and medical systems, and low latency of about 1ms.

5G Application and Use Cases

There are many 5G use cases and 5G applications that have the potential to rebuild the entire world. 5G applications range from device communication to corporate support.

1. Services that are enhanced with broadband-like connectivity

2.Using the Internet of Things (IoT) to its full potential

3.Improved business management

4.High-quality games and streaming

5.More precise information on location monitoring.

Types of 5G wireless services

1. 5G Cellular Services

2. 5G FWA (fixed wireless broadband access)

Industry news:

1.Airtel launches India's first 5G FWA service on 7th August 2023

2. Airtel & Jio has completed minimum rollout obligations for the 5G spectrum allocated norms set by DOT (Department of Telecommunication

3. On the auspicious day of Ganesh Chaturthi, Reliance Jio announced the rollout of Jio Air Fiber services in eight major cities throughout the nation. For those who don't know, Jio Air Fiber is the firm's Fixed Wireless Access (FWA) solution, which is supported by the firm's True 5G service. According to the company's president Kiran Thomas, Reliance Jio has established a dedicated fifth-generation or 5G network slice for its 5G Fixed Wireless Access solution. stationary Wireless Access (FWA) is a sort of wireless communication that uses wireless technology instead of conventional wired connections like copper lines or fiber optic cables to deliver high-speed internet access to stationary sites or buildings. "Jio Air Fiber delivers fiber-like speed over the air without any wires," which means that broadband via FWA devices doesn't need any installation or wires at all. It only requires plugging it in and turning it on. Now that True 5G is linked to ultra high-speed internet, your house has a personal Wi-Fi hotspot.
