Qualcomm, the leading manufacturer of mobile processors, is set to unveil its latest flagship chipset, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, on October 24, 2023 at 12 PM PDT. The announcement will be made at the Snapdragon Summit in Maui, Hawaii, where Qualcomm usually reveals its new Snapdragon products.
The Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 is expected to power the next generation of Android smartphones from various brands, such as Xiaomi, Samsung, OnePlus, Vivo, and more. The chipset is rumored to offer a significant improvement in performance and power efficiency over its predecessor, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, which was launched in November 2022.
According to some leaks and reports, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 will be based on a 4nm process technology, which is the same as the Gen 2. However, the chip will have a different core configuration, with one Cortex-X4 prime core clocked at 3.2 GHz, five Cortex-A720 cores at 3.0 GHz, and two Cortex-A520 cores at 2.0 GHz1. The chipset will also feature an Adreno 750 GPU, which is expected to deliver a boost in graphics performance.
The Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 will also come with a Snapdragon X62 5G modem, which will support up to 10 Gbps download and 316 Mbps upload speeds. The modem will also support both mmWave and sub-6 GHz bands of 5G, as well as Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.2.
The Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 will compete with Apple’s A17 Bionic chip, which powers the iPhone 15 series. The A17 Bionic is based on a more advanced 3nm process technology, which gives it an edge in terms of power and efficiency. However, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 for Galaxy chip, which was exclusive to Samsung’s Galaxy S23 series, managed to beat the A16 Bionic in some graphics benchmarks1. Therefore, it remains to be seen how the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 will fare against the A17 Bionic.
The first smartphones to feature the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 are expected to launch in November or December this year. Some of the rumored devices include the Xiaomi Mi14 series, the Vivo X100 series, the OnePlus 12 series, and more1.
The Snapdragon Summit will be live-streamed on Qualcomm’s website and social media channels. For Indian viewers, the event will start at 12:30 AM on October 253. Stay tuned for more updates on the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 and its features.
