India's first and largest e-Cricket tournament, the Global e-Cricket Premier League has a prize pool of Rs 2.51 crores.
JetSynthesys, a Pune-based gaming studio and entertainment company has announced that it will host India’s largest e-cricket tournament next week. The Global e-Cricket Premier League (GEPL) has a prize pool of Rs 2.51 crore and is the country’s first esports league that matches Krafton’s Battlegrounds Mobile India (BGMI) series.
According to the company, it is the world’s first and largest team-based cricket esports tournament and entertainment league. Jetsynthesys says the goal of the tournament is “to revolutionize the cricket gaming industry by seamlessly blending cricket, video gaming, esports, and entertainment.”
Registrations for GEPL started on June 28 and ended on July 8. Jetsynthesys said that it accepted more than 2 lakh registrations from over 1 crore e-Cricket gamers who played Real Cricket for more than one hour every day.
The qualifiers commenced for the e-sports tournament started on July 14 and lasted till August 10 with gamers participating in single-elimination matches where the top 100 players were chosen. As part of 8 teams, GEPL will give salaries to top players and a chance to fight for the title of ‘e-Cricket’ icon.
League Promoter and founder and CEO of JetSynthesys, Rajan Navani, said in a statement that the company is”excited about the prospects of a league that will redefine the cricketing landscape in esports and enable players and fans to experience an engaging gaming platform.”
The closed offline league has already started yesterday and will be streamed on JioCinema and Sports18 and is expected to rope in millions of viewers every day. The finals will take place in one of Pune's known stadiums on 8 December 2023. The finale will also feature music performances by both international and domestic artists.
