The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has announced that it will scrap the paper-based KYC process for SIM cards from 1 January, 2024. The move is aimed at reducing SIM frauds and enhancing customer convenience. The paper-based KYC was introduced in 2012 to verify the identity and address of SIM card users. However, it has been prone to misuse and duplication by fraudsters. The DoT will replace the paper-based KYC with a digital KYC system that will use biometric authentication and online verification. The digital KYC will be faster, safer, and more eco-friendly. 🌿
