Howrah Station's iconic Bodo Ghadi clocked 97 years of time-keeping at one of the busiest stations in the country.
The dual-faced Bodo Ghadi, mounted on a heavy wooden frame, was installed in 1926. Manufactured by Gents Co, London, it was installed at Howrah by the famous clock merchant of Kolkata during the colonial period, Late Deb Prosad Roy of M/s Roy Brothers Co, Kolkata.
There is another giant dual-faced clock at Howrah Station, also manufactured by Gents Co, which has also completed 97 years. It's mounted on one of the station's towers outside with one dial facing the Hooghly river and the other the Howrah bus stand.
One dial of the Bodo Ghadi is facing platforms 1 to 8 whereas the other is facing platforms 9 to 15. The Bodo Ghadi inside Howrah station has a clock dial size of 4ft, 18 inch long hour hand and 24 inch long minute hand.
