The upcoming Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 is rumored to feature 'Phoenix' high-performance cores clocked at 4.00GHz, marking a substantial increase compared to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3's 3.30GHz limit.

Multiple reports suggest that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 may abandon ARM's CPU designs in favor of Qualcomm's custom Oryon or Phoenix cores.

This upcoming SoC is anticipated to be manufactured on TSMC's updated 3nm process, promising enhanced power efficiency compared to its predecessor, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3.The speculated efficiency improvements could potentially enable the high-performance Phoenix cores to achieve a 4.00GHz clock speed, as per insights from a source.

Furthermore, there are earlier speculations indicating that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 will be coupled with an Adreno 830 GPU, emphasizing a significant boost in overall performance. Some rumors also suggest a departure from efficiency cores, following a strategy akin to MediaTek's Dimensity 9300, aiming for higher multi-core performance at the expense of increased power consumption.

However, the anticipated benefits of the advanced 3nm manufacturing process might help mitigate the impact on power efficiency.

The Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 is expected to feature a '2 + 6' CPU cluster configuration. Although Digital Chat Station didn't specify which cores were tested at 4.00GHz, it is assumed to be the high-performance ones.

If Qualcomm can maintain these clock frequencies for the final product, it would represent a significant advancement over the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, where the Cortex-X4 peaks at 3.30GHz.

The heightened frequency of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4's Phoenix core is anticipated to enhance its single-threaded performance, and the dual-core setup is naturally poised to contribute to improved multi-threaded workloads.

While the tipster hasn't directly compared the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 to Apple's A-series or M-series chips, previous reports indicated that Qualcomm is experimenting with the Adreno 830. Initial tests suggested that this GPU outpaces the M2.

While these enhancements are appealing, it's crucial for Qualcomm to uphold these specifications upon the official launch of the flagship chipset. At this stage, it's advisable for readers to approach this rumor with caution, and we'll provide further updates as they become available.
