1. Expansion of Take It Down Program:

--> Take It Down, a joint initiative of NCMEC and Meta, helps teenagers regain control of their private images and stop them from being shared online.

--> Originally available in English and Spanish, the program now covers 25 languages and reaches millions of teens worldwide.

--> Users under 18, parents or trusted adults may submit image codes through TakeItDown.NCMEC.org for confidential takedown procedures.

--> The platform prioritizes privacy by only sharing numeric codes, not actual images, and works with NCMEC to find and remove duplicates, reducing the risk of further abuse.

2. New Resources to Combat Sextortion:

--> Meta has teamed up with Thorne to provide updated guidance for teens, parents and teachers on how to deal with sexual harassment.

--> Resources are available in the Sextortion Center within the Meta Security Center, which offers advice and support.

--> A global campaign in collaboration with security organizations and creators aims to raise awareness of sex scams and preventative measures.

3. Protecting Teens on Meta Apps:

--> Instagram's default privacy settings are strengthened to protect underage users, including private account settings for under-16s and stricter messagesettings for under-18s.

In a statement, Meta emphasized its commitment to addressing the impact of sharing personal intimate images, particularly for young individuals. The company recognizes the anxiety caused by sexual harassment and aims to empower teens to take control of their private images. The new initiatives are designed to equip teenagers, along with their parents and teachers, against exploitation, as well as support creators and security organizations around the world through a comprehensive information campaign aimed at preventing sexual extortion. On Safer Internet Day, Meta takes a stand against this crime and highlights the importance of a safer online environment for everyone.
