Wondering about leap day? Curious if 2024 is a leap year? Well, buckle up for some leap year fun!

Yes, indeed, 2024 is a leap year, meaning Thursday, 29th February is a special treat that only rolls around once every four years. Our last leap days were in 2020 and 2016, and we'll have to wait until 2028 for the next one.

Since this day is a rare gem, people are finding all sorts of ways to celebrate, from snagging special deals at businesses to finally marking their Feb. 29 birthdays in style. So, what exactly is leap day? It's that bonus day added to our calendars during leap years, like 2024. It gives February, the shortest month, a little extra love.

But why do we need leap days? Blame it on the Earth's orbit! Our planet takes about 365.242190 days to orbit the sun, not a nice, neat 365 days. Those extra fractions of a day add up over time, ensuring our seasons stay in sync.

And don't forget the leap year math! We sometimes skip leap years to keep things in check. Years divisible by 100 but not by 400 get the skip treatment, like 1700, 1800, and 1900 (but not 2000). We won't skip another leap year until 2100

Now, who came up with this leap day madness? It's been around for ages, with roots in ancient Egyptian and Roman calendars. Julius Caesar even got in on the action, adding an extra day to February every four years starting in 45 BCE.

But what if you're lucky enough to be born on Feb. 29? It's a rare birthday indeed, celebrated by about 5 million "Leaplings" worldwide. These folks often party on Feb. 28 or March 1 in non-leap years, even though their official birthday falls on Feb. 29. Talk about a calendar quirk!

Do you know anyone who was born on 29th of February?

Till then, may the force be with you.
