Kiran Bedi is famous as India's first female IPS (Indian Police Service) officer. She broke gender barriers to enter a male-dominated field and made significant contributions to law enforcement, prison reform, and social advocacy.

Kiran Bedi was born on 9 June 1949 in Amritsar. After his initial studies in Amritsar, he completed his further studies from Punjab University, Chandigarh. She served as a lecturer at Khalsa College for Women, Amritsar. meanwhile she was selected for the Indian Police Service in 1972. This is about the time when people in India did not even think about the selection of women in civil services examination through competitive examination. Women were considered limited to domestic work only. But Kiran Bedi broke this notion by being selected as the country's first woman IPS.


Kiran Bedi did very excellent work after becoming IPS.

During her tenure, she did not hesitate at all in taking tough decisions. Examples of all his tough decisions are cited even today. During this period many reformist works were also done. Due to which Kiran Bedi was given the 'Ramon Magsaysay' award, called the Nobel of Asia, in 1994. She also launched an extensive campaign for drug prevention. Apart from this, he was awarded many awards for his service. In the year 2007, he voluntarily resigned from his services. After this she became completely engaged in social service work.

She was one of the prominent leaders in the movement led by Anna Hazare against corruption in 2011. He later chose to pursue political career with BJP, and served as Lieutenant Governor of Puducherry.
