I recently came across news that Corning has launched a new variant of its latest glass invention designed for budget-friendly devices. Let's dive in and explore!
Corning Incorporated has unveiled Corning Gorilla Glass 7i, a new durable glass designed specifically for mid-range and budget smartphones. This glass promises superior resistance to drops and scratches compared to other products in its category.
In Corning's laboratory tests, Gorilla Glass 7i demonstrated the ability to withstand drops from heights of up to one meter onto surfaces like asphalt, outperforming other similar glasses which often fail from lower heights. Additionally, Gorilla Glass 7i boasts double the scratch resistance of its competitors.
David Velasquez, Vice President of Corning Gorilla Glass, highlighted the critical need for durability among mobile device users. He noted that Gorilla Glass 7i is engineered to provide exceptional toughness at a cost-effective price, ensuring more consumers can safeguard their smartphone investments.
The demand for Gorilla Glass 7i arises from the continued use of older versions, such as Gorilla Glass 5, which has been in use since 2016.
As these older glass versions have been around for several years, there's an increasing need for a contemporary solution that caters to modest budgets while providing enhanced protection for the larger, higher-quality displays found in today's mid-range phones.
While Gorilla Glass 7i is mainly targeted at smartphones, it is also suitable for other devices like smartwatches that require durable glass to withstand scratches and falls.
This new version of Gorilla Glass appears significantly more durable compared to its predecessors. Do you think iQOO will incorporate this Gorilla Glass in their upcoming devices? Share your thoughts in the comment section below.
