Hey Questers ❤️
Google plans to bring the school time feature to more Android devices to expand parents control over their children's device usage.
In May 2024, Google launched the parent-friendly 'School time' feature on the Fitbit Ace LTE smartwatches. Now, the California-headquartered tech giant plans to bring the 'School time' feature to more Android devices to expand parents' control over their children's device usage, be they inside the classroom attending a lecture or outside. In a recent blog post on The Keyword, Mindy Brooks, General Manager, Kids and Families, Google, said that the search engine giant plans to expand the School time feature to more devices like select Android smartphones, tablets and Samsung Galaxy Watches in 2025.
Google hasn't specified which Android smartphones will get the School time feature, only that “more Android devices” will get it through 2025.
Google's School time feature is all about parents restricting some of the features of personal Android devices used by children so that there are fewer distractions and the kids' attention on tasks does not get scattered, both inside and outside the classroom.
With Google's School time feature, parents can “set their child's personal device to a dedicated home screen with limited functionality during school hours”.
Google's School time feature allows parents to decide what apps the kids can or cannot access through Family Link, Google's parental controls app. Parents can also control which contacts can communicate with their kids over calls or texts.
Google's School time feature can also be set to active when the kids are not attending classes to improve kids' focus on other activities and reduce their screen time.
Google said that for teenagers not under parental supervision through Family Link, the Focus Mode can be activated on their Android devices for a specific time to stop oncoming notifications and reduce distractions.
Thank you 😊
